The Special Olympics World Games 2023 took place from 17 June to 25 June 2023 in Berlin and thus for the first time in Germany. More than 6,500 athletes from 176 nations competed in 26 sports. Their goals: to give their best, become visible and receive recognition.
The Jury‘s Statement
The Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023 were the biggest multi-sport event since the 1972 Olympic Games. For a long time, people with intellectual and multiple disabilities were invisible. With the Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023 and the accompanying attention-grabbing campaign "We. The athletes." these athletes have been given a huge stage and the visibility they deserve. The logo, which reflects the emotions of the athletes with bright colours and graphic elements and symbolically tears down the walls in society's mind with the "flying bricks", was also a great success. For more participation, visibility and inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in the future. A great message with great relevance.
