COCH* represents a new village center in Burbach—a small community in the Siegerland region with a strong sense of community, but one that had long lacked a shared gathering place. The former restaurant “Am Römer,” known locally as “Koch,” was in dire need of renovation. What began as a village pub run by volunteers gave rise to a vision to revitalize this place. The branding reflects the community spirit of the village and combines tradition with a new purpose: the old pub is being transformed into an open space for socializing, co-working, and events—a symbol of solidarity and a shared future for the village.

The Jury‘s Statement

Where rural development often falters for lack of shared points of identification, "COCH* das gestapelte Dorf" ("COCH* the stacked village") starts from a familiar place and its significance for the local community. The brand gives the new village centre a clear stance between memory and new use. Name, narrative and design condense the transformation from former inn to an open place for exchange, work and events. This creates a resilient identity that brings voluntary commitment together and anchors public participation in everyday life.
